Description
Yesterday, I came across this blog posting:

...and was somehow inspired to fire up Rhinoceros and design my own interpretation of what a re-designed nintendo DS would look like. Now, I don't own a DS. I don't even own any Nintendo anythings, but I have played my brothers' GBC's, and the occasional N64/GameCube game at friends' houses, and NES/SNES years ago. I've been more of a console gaming bystander than an active participant, up until I got a PS2 about a year ago. So, if you judge this, judge it as coming from someone with little to no experience.
Several of the major features I tried to incorporate into this design:
- Similar styling to the DS and other Nintendo handhelds
- Smaller size than the DS (it's about 2/3 as thick, and shallower, but about the same width)
- Flip-and-slide screen for single-screen GBA mode
- Identical screen size and spacing (required for Metroid Pinball)
- Nintendogs screenshots! (you know you like the husky)
- All DS features/ports/whatever (some I didn't model cause I was lazy, and the measurements are just close guesstimates based on pictures, but who cares, it's the equivalent of a refined 3D sketch)
Nintendo DS is a trademark of Nintendo, obviously. No infringement or anything is intended, I just wanted it to look semi-authentic. Oh yeah, Nintendo employees, if you come across this, and like it, please feel free to contact me, and we can work something out.
Comments are welcome, but I'm unlikely to work on this more (unless contacted by Nintendo) - I'm just glad I finally finished something after so long.
Modeled and rendered on 2005-11-15 over two days, with Rhinoceros 3D.
